Being of a satirical nature at its root, "Dogma" is set within a rural town where the ordinary is the norm. The protagonist of the book and his best friend find themselves creating chaos and havoc to help quell the insatiable boredom that grips their lives. Eventually, the protagonist's life is turned inside-out and upside-down, and he must make horrible choices if he wants to stay alive. I plan on creating an audio book of this novel, and also creating a YouTube series with visualizers for each chapter to accompany the audio being read to the audience.
Chapter 5 - "Finding God" has been the toughest visual to create so far. The chapter, itself, mostly has to do with a sort of mundane scene, involving the protagonist eating food with a friend in a school cafeteria, all the while contemplating the different ways one can "find god." So, creating the imagery for this one was tough, considering I want these visuals to NOT be 1:1 imitations of the scene/chapters in the book (and want to have some abstract qualities to them). All I could think of for this one was to uniting 3 religious/spiritual symbols, and convey those differences, yet the odd similarities of these very different belief systems (Paganism, Taoism, and Judaism/Abrahamic). The overall style I wanted was "complexity within simplicity," using both a monochrome scheme for the main objects, and light coloring and outlines for the backdrop.
